The project involved converting two 19th century barns into high-quality dwellings for a developer/client, with the barns facing each other across a central courtyard and connected by a period brick wall at the rear.
Preserving the barns’ character was key to creating unique and attractive living spaces. To increase space, a new two-storey contemporary extension was added behind the old wall.
By using contrasting materials and detailing, it successfully differentiated the new from the old, aligning with design principles supported by Heritage England and local planning authorities.
