Mass Architecture is a dynamic, design-led practice founded by Charlotte Harrison and Glen McGowan in 2004. Initially based in London, the practice made its home in York in 2009 and has since worked on a diverse range of projects across Yorkshire and the North.
Our clients benefit from a tailored approach, guided by a passionate and experienced team of architects and designers, we endeavour to make the design process clear, collaborative, and genuinely supportive.
We believe architecture should feel approachable and grounded in real human needs, not wrapped in jargon or detached from everyday life. Our work begins with listening — understanding how people live, work, and move — and translating that insight into places that feel considered, responsible, and built to last.
We design with care and clarity, balancing creativity with technical rigour. Every project is shaped through open dialogue, thoughtful decision making, and a commitment to doing things properly. We value responsible practice; from the materials we specify to the long-term performance of the buildings we create.
Our aim is simple: to deliver architecture that serves people well. Places that feel intuitive, comfortable, and quietly confident. Places that support communities, enrich daily life, and stand the test of time.
