Acomb Green

New Build House | Sustainability

The project involved designing a high-quality, 4-bedroom home for a local couple looking to downsize, with an emphasis on creating a contemporary, low-energy dwelling. The PassivHaus concept was introduced to meet the client’s desire for minimal heating.

Situated within Acomb Conservation Area, the site was once part of a garden belonging to a substantial Georgian house. The design required a sensitive approach to preserve the area’s character while achieving low-energy performance.

The home was split into two ‘blocks’ to reflect the layout of the neighboring building, with splayed elevations and vertical striping, enhancing the Conservation Area while optimizing internal space.

“I approached Mass knowing nothing about architecture nor, to be honest, a clear idea about what I wanted. They helped, guided supported and, where necessarily, took control throughout. I have been delighted with my experience and would not hesitate to engage them again if/when I next have a project”
