Hackney City Farm

New Build | Sustainability | Education

The Resource Centre is part of the Back 2 Earth initiative, which aims to engage marginalised groups, such as refugees and young offenders, through social and educational activities.

Designed as a multifunctional space, it hosts seminars, lectures, and workshops for small groups.

The building’s focus is on sustainability, utilizing locally sourced, reclaimed, and farm-produced materials. A timber frame made from locally coppiced sweet chestnut and reclaimed hardwood is built on reused car tyre foundations. The walls feature straw bales grown in Kent, rendered in lime, with sheep’s wool insulation from the farm, creating a low-impact, community-driven structure.
