The Old Village
Whole House Refurbishment and Two-Storey Extension
Mass Architecture worked closely with the client to transform this 1980’s house within a York Conservation Area. Planning permission for a two-storey rear extension was successfully secured as well as replacement windows and doors throughout.
The existing house posed multiple design challenges, as it is made up of several conflicting styles. The aim was to try to unify the house more through the use of a new composite cladding board employed both front and back.

Client review on Houzz
Charlotte at Mass Architecture helped make our dream family home a reality and I can’t recommend her and the team highly enough. Charlotte had great ideas for our double storey rear extension but very much incorporated our preferences for colours and materials, rather than going off on her own tangent. She helped to evolve and realise my own ideas but also used her wealth of experience to point out any bad ideas, being mindful of our budget throughout. The end result is a home that is sympathetic to the local conservation area but also incorporates crisp, contemporary design features that make it so unique. From beginning to end, Mass Architects were reliable, organised and their communication was excellent and I would not hesitate to work with them again on future projects.
