Upper Poppleton
Whole House Refurbishment, Two-Storey Extension and Garden Annex

  • Location

    York

  • Completion Date

    2021

Situated in a Conservation Area, this ambitious collaborative project with Bert & May concrete tile designers, saw an ‘exceptionally average’ 1950’s house transformed into something extraordinary.

The front elevation is rendered in soft grey and has a contrasting feel to the rich timber cladding and large glass doors to the rear. The aluminium windows and doors were carefully chosen to tie in with the colour scheme.

Internally the house was opened-up at the ground floor level to create an impressive kitchen, dining and living area with full width glass doors giving views onto the beautiful garden and master bedroom annex beyond. At first floor the ceilings were removed to reveal the timber structure, which added character and warmth to the rooms.

Featuring in Elle Decor’s October 2021 issue.

Client review on Houzz

Charlotte and her team are a pleasure to work with and brought genuine flair and creativity to our renovation. Unlike other architects we have worked with, Charlotte was not only focussed on the design credentials of the build, she was also incredibly helpful in ensuring the budget was considered alongside all decisions. Our build was genuinely stress free and we would highly recommend the whole team at Mass.
